Frequently asked questions

What is digital printing?

Digital printing is one the most modern printing techniques in flexible packaging market. Printed image is transferred straight from the computer without any printing forms. Printing in this way has minimal setup time and waste and allows for mass customization and very small minimum ordering quantities.

What are the advantages of digital printing?

Digital printing does not require printing forms, has low setup costs, allows changing the artworks without additional costs.

Why digital printing is more sustainable that other printing methods?

Digital printing has much smaller setup costs and waste. Besides that digital printing consumes significantly less energy and water during the printing process and does not require any hazardous chemical elements in its process.

Why is flexible packaging better than rigid packaging?

Flexible packaging is lightweight in nature and uses significantly less materials for production. Furthermore, it has much higher product-to-packaging ratio, meaning it’s transportation and warehousing costs will be lower too.

What is custom packaging?

Everything that falls outside of our standard pouch range is considered custom packaging in our standards. If you are looking for different sizes, materials or quantities, get in touch with us at [email protected] and we can talk more about it.

Is flexible packaging recyclable?

Most of the flexible packaging in the market is not recyclable because different types of plastics are laminated together and used for packaging. However, recyclable alternatives do exist and we have decided to leave only recyclable or compostable packaging in Lprint’s portfolio.

How to choose the right material for your product?

Different products require different protection levels from the environment. Most common measures of the packaging barrier are oxygen transmission rate (OTR) and water vapour transmission rate (WVTR). Instead of creating an exhaustive list of possible barrier combinations, we have created a universal plastic structure suitable for the vast majority of applications. It might be an overkill for some applications, but it won’t do any harm for your product either.

Also, it is important to note that plastic free recyclable paper pouches and compostable pouches have significantly lower protection from environment and thus not suitable for all products. Moreover, wet products cannot be packed inside paper and compostable pouches.
If you are uncertain which pouch is suitable for your product, get in touch with us and our specialists will help you choose the best option.

What is the shelf life of my product in Lprint pouches?

It is impossible for us to determine the shelf life of your product as each product is different and reacts to oxygen, water vapour and UV light differently. We can provide you with barrier information for each material structure, but only food specialists can calculate the shelf life with this information.

Having that in mind and from our experience, a rule of thumb for most applications are 12-24 months for recyclable plastic pouches and 6-12 months for recyclable paper and compostable packaging.

What are the barrier properties of Lprint pouches?

Datasheets are available upon request for each structure.

What packaging formats do you offer?

Within our standard range we offer stand up pouches (doypacks) and side gusset bags. As custom packaging we can also manufacture sachets or 3 side seal bags and flexible packaging in reels. Different materials and sizes are available for doypacks and side gusset bags too.

What add-ons can I choose for my pouch?

For stand up pouches, we can add zip locks, tear notches, rounded corners, eurohole and degassing valves.

For side gusset bags, we can add tear notches, rounded corners and degassing valves.

How can digital printing be incorporated into the company’s marketing strategy?

Digital printing allows you to customize your packaging. Different artworks can be used for different locations, events, promotions. Additionally, new products and new markets can be tested for responsiveness with quick production times and small ordering quantities.

Are Lprint’s pouches food safe?

Yes. All our pouches can be used in contact with food products.

Can plastic pouches be environmentally friendly?

Yes it can. If more than 90% of the pouch is produced from the same polymer, then such pouch is considered highly recyclable. Our recyclable pouches meet this requirement. Second consideration is the source of the plastic. Currently we are using virgin plastic, but we are working towards incorporating plastic which is manufactured from recycled waste. This would make the pouch even more environmentally friendly and it would be a big move towards circular economy.

Are paper pouches the most sustainable packaging option?

Not necessarily. Paper pouches have a well defined way of disposal in most consumers’ minds, they are bio based and easily recyclable. However, their barrier properties are slightly lower than plastic barriers, zippers cannot be used for reclosability and structural strength of such pouches are not great. This means that paper is not ideal for heavy products, large bags or for products that require very high barrier properties.

Can compostable packaging be recycled?

No, compostable packaging is not recyclable. It should be disposed off together with organic waste and this waste goes to composting facilities or biogas generation plants. Different countries and even different municipalities can have different guidelines for organic waste and composting. It is important to check these before introducing compostable packaging into the market. Your good intentions might not yield good results.

Will Lprint’s compostable packaging decompose in my back yard?

No, our compostable packaging is only compostable in industrial conditions. This means that in order to start the decomposing process, certain environmental requirements for temperature, humidity and mycobacterial presence are required.

Can I get some samples of your pouches so I can get a feel for the material, size and print quality?
